"That building is just beautiful. We're very honored to be part of it."
- George Driscoll, Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Bay Ferries Ltd.

"Spectacular first impression" on new visitors to Portland.
- Barbara Whitten, President & CEO of Greater Portland Convention and Visitors Bureau

Reaching out into Casco Bay and welcoming newcomers to Portland, Ocean Gateway is the City’s newest waterfront jewel. The spectacular setting of islands and water enhance the beauty of the architecture which was designed to resemble the prow of a ship. While primarily a receiving terminal for incoming ships, Ocean Gateway is also available as an event space for anything from small concerts to auctions and parties. There are serve limits in use during the season that Ocean Gateway is used as a ferry terminal.

The total project cost of $20.7 million is financed by $3.6 million in City funds, $4.5 million in federal funds and $12.6 million of state funding. The project will include construction of a marine passenger terminal and receiving station, a new berth and docking facility to accommodate international ferry service and cruise ship visits, the extension of Commercial Street and the construction of a new street linking Fore Street to the new terminal. The plan also incorporates open space and public access along the City’s waterfront.

The Ocean Gateway facility design was led by Woodard & Curran, of Portland, with architecture by the local firm of Winton Scott Architects and a nationally renowned design team. Reed and Reed of Woolwich, Maine was awarded the contract to construct the facility.
